The Mayor is the Head of Council and his duties differ from that of other members of Council.  The Mayor’s office has duties placed on it by statute, as well as certain powers of an executive nature that are not possessed by other members of Council.  By virtue of this office, the Mayor is a member of other local boards and is able to exert some influence over their deliberations as well as communicate their views to Council.
It is the Mayor’s duty to cause laws of the Municipality to be executed and obeyed.  He oversees the conduct of all subordinate officers and recommends to Council measures which improve the finances, health, security, cleanliness, comfort and ornamentation of the Municipality.  It is also his duty to preside at all meetings of Council and preserve order.

Stellarton Town Council
The Council is composed of four members and are elected by ward.  Decisions of Council require support from a majority of the members present at a meeting.
