Our mission statement:
"....to provide high quality, affordable services that enhance Stellarton’s position as a vibrant and thriving community for the benefit of all residents, business, and visitors to the Town, and to promote Stellarton as a safe, clean and friendly community in which to live and work."
Welcome to the Town of Stellarton, a thriving community of 4,700 residents and situated on the East River, a short drive from the Northumberland Strait with the warmest water north of the Carolinas.
Stellarton is proud of its Scottish roots and is rich in the history of coal mining and railways. Coal was discovered in 1798. As a result the railway built to transport the coal was the first to use standard gauge and iron rails in Canada. Canada’s oldest locomotive, the Samson, along with the Albion are still housed here in the Museum of Industry, one of the largest museums in Atlantic Canada.
Stellarton is also home to Sobeys, Canada’s second largest food retailer. Empire, Sobeys holding company, is also located here along with many of her subsidiaries including Big 8 Beverages, TRA Foods, Empire Theatres and a Sobeys Distribution Centre.
Stellarton is an excellent place to live and work with a large variety of stores close by. Nova Scotia Community College, Pictou Campus is located here as well as some of the best recreation facilities in Nova Scotia. We have several ball fields, an indoor and outdoor soccer complex, good walking trails, beautiful Allan Park and a partially completed track and field area. Don’t forget to check out our uniquely painted fire hydrants!
Stellarton is a progressive community. It recently developed the infrastructure for a new business park along Highway 104. As well, the downtown core is becoming more attractive thanks to our Community in Bloom Committee and offers the visitor exciting places to shop and eat.
